SYPNOPSIS
On the surface, Berkeley physicist Richard Muller fits the typecast of a scientist. He sports a head of wild Einsteinian hair (though it’s black) and bushy handlebar mustache. “My research has been one disaster after another,” he says puckishly. This well-rehearsed line is quite literally true. Muller and his former students have done pioneering work on the big bang. He studied the violent supernova explosion preceding the sun. And then there’s his Nemesis. I spent two days with Richard Muller and learned about Nemesis and other controversial ideas dreamt up by the physicist.
